Samsung Announces 200 MP Camera Sensor

Samsung 200 MP Camera – The sensor combines 4 pixels to lower the resolution to 50 MP, so you can shoot 8K video without cropping or reducing the image.

Samsung has just announced the ISOCELL HP1 as the sensor world’s first 200 MP image with a 0.64-micrometer photodiode size. Simultaneously, the company has also announced the ISOCELL GN5 50 MP as the first sensor to adopt Dual Pixel Pro AF technology.

The ISOCELL HP1 features the latest ChameleonCell technology, a pixel-binning technology that uses a double, quadruple, or full pixel layout depending on the environment. It can record 8K video at 30 fps with a high field of view.

Reporting to Gizmochina (September 2), the sensor combines 4 pixels to lower the resolution to 50 MP, so it can take 8K videos without the need to crop or reduce the full image. In low light environments, the HP1 transforms into a 12.5 MP image sensor by combining 16 pixels into 1 to absorb more light.

On the other hand, the Samsung ISOCELL GN5 is the industry’s first 1.0-micrometer image sensor to integrate Dual Pixel Pro technology. This is an all-way AF technology that can substantially improve autofocus capabilities.

The technology places two photodiodes in each 1.0-micrometer pixel both horizontally and vertically to recognize changing patterns in all directions. With one million phase-detection multi-directional photodiodes covering all sensor areas, AF performance is even faster.

ISOCELL GN5 uses Samsung’s proprietary pixel technology, which applies Front Deep Trench Isolation (FDTI) to Dual Pixel products – an industry first. Regardless of the size of the microscopic photodiodes, FTDI allows each photodiode to absorb and store more light information, improving image quality and reducing crosstalk interference in pixels.

Samsung has already shipped the ISOCELL HP1 and ISOCELL GN5 sensors to cell phone manufacturers. This means there will be new devices with this sensor sometime later this year or early next year. There is also a possibility that the upcoming Galaxy S22 series will be equipped with the said 200 MP camera sensor.
