MediaTek has launched the Kompanio 520 and Kompanio 528 processors for entry-level Chromebook devices. MediaTek is one of the leading players in processor options for entry-level Chromebooks. Now, the company is doubling down on this segment by launching two new chips: MediaTek Kompanio 520 and MediaTek Kompanio 528.
The two new chipsets come with improved screen support, power management, imaging capabilities, and a few other things for Chromebooks.
The MediaTek Kompanio 520 and 528 chips use two Cortex-A76 RAM cores out of a total of eight cores. The 520 has a clock speed of 2.0 GHz, while the 528 has a clock speed of 2.2 GHz. Reporting from Gizmochina (11/11), both chips also come with an upgraded dual-core GPU and an integrated APU for enhanced AI-powered performance.
In terms of enhanced display support, the MediaTek Kompanio 520 and Kompanio 528 have support for Full HD+ displays with a screen resolution of 2,520 x 1,080 pixels and support for adding a secondary Full HD display with a display resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels.
The two latest processors support LPDDR4x RAM and eMMC 5.1 storage. In the camera department, there is support for camera sensors up to 32 MP with Full HD 60 fps video recording. It also packs a HiFi-5 DSP for better microphone processing. There is Wi-Fi 6 support for connectivity on the MediaTek Kompanio520 and MediaTek Kompanio528.
As for availability, the Taiwanese company said that the first Chromebooks powered by the Kompanio 520 and 528 will start appearing in the first quarter of 2023.
